I am a wife and mama to two amazing little boys and a sweet baby girl. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and family means absolutely everything to us.
After taking time off from the world of real estate to start my family back in 2010 I was sure that in the near future I wanted to explore a career that would allow me to remain in a family-oriented atmosphere and offer others the level of care and support I offered my own family. That led me to investigate Postpartum Doula care. The more I researched this amazing field, the more intrigued I became. And as I started to read more into the role of a Labor Doula as well, it became clear to me that as a new mama-to-be, I should have employed the expertise of a doula when my first son was born. Especially because I ended up having an emergency caesarean and I truly believe the support and knowledge of a trained professional like a Labor Doula could have minimized my odds of a C-section with more emphasize placed on labor techniques and pain management.
Additionally, having a Postpartum Doula afterwards would have made the whole experience that much easier, as recovery from major abdominal surgery is hard. I also struggled with Postpartum Depression for months afterwards and I had no idea what was happening until seeking help from an amazing homeopathic/naturopath doctor.
During my pregnancy nobody had ever suggested I find myself a doula. It didn't even come up in conversation. And to be honest, I didn't even really know what a doula was back then. I've found that most people still don't. Which is why I became so passionate about spreading the good word about labor and postpartum doula work. I believe every mama deserves to be informed about what a doula is, what a doula does, how a doula can enhance their birth experience and that any woman can have a doula, regardless of their situation. From home births to hospital births, natural or medicated, EVERY mama or mama-to-be deserves as much love and support as she can get her hands on! Mamas deserve to have the birth they've always dreamed about and the self-empowerment to make it happen. A doula can help them achieve that. Whatever it looks like, your doula is there for YOU!
After much research and making the decision to have my placenta encapsulated after the birth of my second son and experiencing the dramatic benefits that greatly differed from my first postpartum experience, another passion arose in placentas and I knew that I wanted to train immediately in placenta encapsulation so that I could offer my knowledge to other mamas. The placenta is such a beautiful organ that is responsible for so much of your pregnancy and your baby's sustainability, I see it as such a bonus that women are able to take advantage of all the wonder it beholds after birth.
